Support for Allies
The lgbtqia2s+ community & their loved ones are overwhelmed & scared.
Affirming allies are needed more than ever.
Why affirming allies are needed...
The lgbtqia2s+ community reports increased rates of poor mental & physical health compared to the general population.
This is because of mistreatment by others.
Legislative attacks are a big factor, but emotional neglect or abuse by local community & family members was the leading contributor to the discrepancy between populations.
For example:
Trans adults are nearly 9x more likely to attempt suicide in their lifetime compared to the general population. 41% of lgbtq+ youth seriously considered attempting suicide
in the last year.
How affirming allies save lives...
Having one affirming ally lowers lgbtq+ individual's risk of suicide to general population numbers.
You could be that one person!
Ally is a verb & not a self declaration.
A verb is an action word. To be considered an ally you need to do the work to become educated, to stand up, & to speak out. Not once, but consistently & often. This can be within the walls of your home or work place or on a larger scale like testifying in the legislature or at school board meetings.
